目录说明A rare 16th century gilt brass Sundial by Ulrich Schniep
Munich, signed ”*VS*” and dated 1574, the sundial with hour scale from 1–8 and 4–12, string gnomon on folding plummet support, latitude “AD ELEVATIO POLI 48 GR:”, lid with waywiser, compass directions and weather informations, back of lid and base engraved. Size closed c. 11 x 68 x 60 mm. (WU).
Ulrich Schniep (+ 1588), war ab 1554 Bürger von München und erhielt bald darauf Aufträge von Herzog Albrecht. Als Uhr- und Kompastmacher erhielt er ein jährliches Gehalt von 25 Gulden und für besondere Aufträge zusätzliche Bezahlung. Schniep fertigte aber auch Instrumente für Kaiser Maximilian II. Zu seinen begabtesten Schülern gehören sein Sohn Alexius und Marcus Purman. Lit.: Zinner, Astronomische Instrumente.
