II, Verlag Christian Brandstätter, 1996 - supplement to the catalogue raisonné, page 625, M672 - with the remark: Egger-Lienz depicted the same gateway in an earlier pencil sketch (Z62) and in the large-scale drawing, ‘Vater und Sohn’ (Z195) dated 1885. According to the owner, it is the entrance to the corn store at the Tammerburg near Lienz.

‘... This belongs stylistically and thematically to a group of oil paintings that was produced throughout 1890 in Lienz and its surroundings ...’ The high quality of the work is in excellent condition following careful restoration and cleaning. The restoration was concerned above all with splits to the outer margins of the image. The picture was cropped slightly below in order to fit it into an available frame. In doing so, the signature, ‘A. Egger’ was also clipped. The lovely painterly quality and the interesting topographical reference to the artist’s homeland and to a building that inspired him artistically on many occasions give value to this study.
