Artist of the 18th century
Portrait of a young prince holding a crown, oil on canvas, 104 x 81 cm, original carved and gilded Venetian 18th-century frame, (Wo)
Provenance: Viennese private collection;
We are grateful to Prof. Dr. Helmut Börsch-Supan, who identified the sitter as Stanislaus Leszczynski (1677-1766), King of Poland (1704-1707 and 1733-1735) and Duke of Lorraine. We thank Ludwig Meyer, Archiv für Kunstgeschichte, Munich, who considers the present work to depict King Ferdinand VI of Spain (1713-1759). He compares it with a similar portrait of the king by Jacopo Amigoni, Marchese di Canossa Collection, Verona.
