We thank Prof. Ugo Ruggeri for confirming the authenticity of this painting by Pietro Liberi. The present composition is related to the painting Diana and Acteon in Berlin, Bode Museum, and the painting Cupid and Psyche in a private collection (comp. U. Ruggeri Pietro and Marco Liberi, Rimini 1996, figs. 24, 28, 30, 31). The sensitive and erotic touch of Liberi’s painting was already highly appreciated during the artist’s lifetime.
