Frans Mortelmans: He studied at the Antwerp Academy under Lucas Schaefels and Charles Verlat. He was also a student of Frans Van Leemputtens. Later he was himself made a professor at the Academy. From 1892 he specialised in the depiction of flowers and still lifes, and began to allow an impressionistic component to infuse his realistic painterly style.
