Figure, wood. These figures, called 'Bateba', are carved by the Lobi as 'homes' for their spirits ('Thila'), placed in shrines and offered sacrifices. This small, male 'Bateba' figure in the 'classical' Lobi style attractively extends its right hand to his chin and is impressive with its heavy and very old sacrificial patina (blood). H: 21 cm. (ME)
