Lot No. 77
DescriptionSlit drum, wood with brass decorative nails. The Mangbetu in the north-eastern Congo make and beat these elegantly shaped, typical slit drums. This instrument is made of brown, heavy wood, semi-circular, with handles on each side, carved from one piece, and is impressive with its visible age and distinct signs of long usage. The 'classical' formed object is richly ornamented with brass decorative nails (partly in abstract human form) and punched dot-circle motif. 19th/early 20th century. (ME)
