Lot No. 38
DescriptionGermany, 2012, stainless steel, signed: xaver 2012, paravent: height 180 cm, width 40 cm, (3 x), chair: height 45 cm, 40 x 40 cm. (DR) A unique piece. In the “Paravent Chair”, two chairs resign from their original function. Positioned back to back and without seats, they refuse to perform what is commonly expected from them. Extremely reduced in terms of manufacture and material, they form a visual idea of what they are. Their overly tall backrests join to form a screen (or paravent). “A folding screen serves to hide something, to remove something from vision. In the “Paravent Chair”, the folding screen, too, has lost its function, since it has been robbed of its covering and has therefore become useless. The folding screen forms a skeleton, but is not a partition. It thus opens up the way for open communication and more transparency.” (Xaver Sedelmeier)
