“Schön bis tief ins tragische hinein”
Caroline Stoll and Bruno Preisendörfer in discussion with H. N. Is your art a criticism of the church or of the sacred? Not at all, that is completely irrelevant to me. You have to imagine, it is as if I were an Egyptologist, dealing with the symbols of Egyptian mythology. Criticism never crossed my mind, because I don’t particularly care about practising Christianity. I’m far more interested in tradition, all religions and mythologies. Hence my examination of Christian - but not only Christian - symbols. You would completely misunderstand my work if you believed I was glorifying the Catholic Church, or if you thought I was trying to criticise it or to be blasphemous. In reality I am a researcher of myths...
