The starting price is the initial bid at which your item is offered at auction, while the estimate reflects the specialist’s opinion regarding the likely selling price to be realised. In addition, the seller also has the option to define a lower limit (seller’s reserve) below which your item must not be sold.
Wherever possible, the estimate and relevant auction date are determined at the time we receive a consignment. Should additional research prove necessary, you will be informed in writing about the specialist’s assessment and the estimate. You may either agree to the price suggested by the specialist or withdraw your consignment within a period of two weeks.

The Dorotheum charges a seller’s commission, which is a variable percentage of the highest bid. A printing fee will be added for reproductions in the catalogue.

Once we accept a consignment for auction, you will be given a receipt, which you subsequently need to present in order to receive the proceeds of the sale. We will be pleased to remit the money to your account, or you may wish to collect it in cash at the payment counter. If previously agreed upon, you may also receive an advance on the projected proceeds of your sale.
