Brilliant start to the Dorotheum Auction Week. On Monday, 23rd November, the historical silver category achieved its best autumn result to date.
In total, the 2009 annual silver result brought a record 3,8 million in total turn-over (gross), in other words the single highest such result in the history of this consistently growing category at the Dorotheum.
Dorotheum expert Georg Ludwigstorff relates the enormous interest in the silver category to the fact that "Historical silver offers an excellent combination of investment and everyday usefulness".
The Emperor visits China: an ornamental centrepiece of Emperor Franz Joseph I. of Austria was acquired by a bidder from China for 46.600 Euro. Another top lot, a lidded tankard from Russia, in the form of a grape leaf covered tree trunk with a squirrel, was sold for 55.200 Euro.
