DescriptionLarge clay vessel from Mali, West Africa. Thick-walled water or storage jar made of light brown clay, probably shaped and smoothed using the spiral bead technique. The round spout-opening glazed red-brown. The entire, unglazed exterior divided into three zones by two raised grooves. Smooth upper zone decorated with impressed dot lines, vertical knop lines and three raised human figures. The middle field ornamented with an indented structure and three raised human figures. The lower zone structured with flat knops. Small foot of the same material. H: 50 cm, Dm. 37 cm (belly, 20 cm (spout). (ME)
