(Kutztown 1958–1990 New York) Untitled (for Alvaro), signed, dated K. Haring, Sept. 12–84, mixed media on wood, 150 x 80 cm, (PP)
Certificate: The Keith Haring Foundation Inc., 22 March 2007, inv. no. 032207A14 Provenance: Private Collection, Italy
This work was executed in Rome, during September 1984: Haring dedicated it to the Italian friend who was helping him in realizing some works in the role of technical adviser. The artist employed an old blue painted door with a strange, irregular profile. He covered it with black varnish, leaving only a “window”, a space in which to write a dedication to the friend and to paint one of his famous, dynamic characters. The idea of re-using an “objet trouvé” connects Haring‘s first pauper “pop” graffiti with its surrealistic origins.
