future heir to the Austrian throne,
Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

Austrian and international photography are both well-represented at the upcoming Dorotheum auction on 30th March 2010 which will feature works by such diverse artists as Rudolf Koppitz, Valie Export, Robert Mapplethorpe, Mario Giacomelli, and Dennis Hopper. Günter Brus, Otto Muehl, Hermann Nitsch contribute several examples of Actionism photography.
A particularly choice find offered at this auction are the photographs documenting the 1892 world tour undertaken by the future heir to the Austrian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand travelled around the world aboard the vessel „Kaiserin Elisabeth“ while accompanying a trade mission. The parcel of photographs, recorded by Ferdinand Hodek, shows the Archduke in various heroic poses and on hunting excursions. Montage was used to preserve the appearances demanded by protocol. This extraordinary collection is valued at between 6.000 and 8.000 Euro.
