Designed circa 1840/45 by Joh. Nep. Geyer of Innsbruck. A rich serpentine and scrolled walnut-veneered softwood chair with shaped legs typical of the work of Geyer, the sides, the backrest and the frieze decorated with fine maplewood geometric marquetry, later upholstery and a loose upholstered seat cushion. With various losses to the veneer, some ageing and wear. (DOC)
An outstandingly executed piece, in which Geyer's authorship is undeniable. Identical examples are to be found in the Volkskunstmuseum of Volder and at the official residence of the Governor of the Tyrol in Innsbruck.
