Excellent results and robust demand distinguished the auction of old master paintings held on 13th October 2010 at Dorotheum Vienna, making this one of the most successful auctions to date. 329.300 Euro were paid for two newly discovered scenes from the Life of King David by Guercino, and the auction's title lot, a Holy Family - coming from a private collection in Linz - by Denys Calvaert, whose penchant for painting in a highly colourful, Italian manner earned him the soubriquet Fiammingo, was successfully sold for excellent € 162.550 (Cat. No. 363). Venusian charms were especially sought-after, a painting by Carlo Maratti reaching 283.300 Euro, another by Hans Rottenhammer, 107.855 (Cat. No. 375, 398)
Bidding for a Christ with Crown of Thorns from the studio of Hans Memling went from an initial 13.000 Euro to a final bid of 85.700 Euro (Cat. No. 304)!
At the furniture- and antique auction on 13th October 2010, many of the lots were knocked down for far more than their estimates, in particular a pair of almost 6 ft tall, seven-light candelabra from Florence, weighing 72 kg; the pair went to a Chinese buyer for 73.500 Euro (Cat. No. 881). Bidding was also fierce for a rare pair of Early Biedermeier consoles, a Renaissance cabinet, and two candleholders by Danhauser (€ 67.400, € 55.200, € 55.200, Cat. No. 739, 705, 741)
