Exceptional success for Kolo Moser: At the Dorotheum auction of "Modern Art" on 25th November 2008, "Frühling" (1900, Spring) achieved the new world record price of 375.000 Euro (source: Artnet). After a heated bidding contest, the painting by the famous proponent of Viennese Modernism went to an Austrian buyer attending the auction. In an impressive composition, "Frühling" depicts spring as a dynamic youth in the nude. Kolo Moser was one of the co-founders of the Vienna Secession and one of the leading proponents of art nouveau, whose work combines painting, graphic art, and craftsmanship in a manner not unlike that of the Arts & Crafts Movement.
Further top results for first-rate paintings by Giorgio de Chirico or Oskar Kokoschka continued the success of the Dorotheum's resplendent silver auction on 24th November.
