After the First World War, Janousek studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Following his stay in Paris, he was strongly influenced by Picasso. In 1932 he took part in the Surrealist Exhibition, ‘Poesie 32’ in Prague, nonetheless, never belonging to the group of Czech Surrealists. His biomorphous paintings are similar to the Surrealism of Miró.
