Ways in which you can place a bid for an auction at the Dorotheum in Prague
There are various possibilities for you to choose from if you would like to participate in an auction at the Dorotheum in Prague:
Bidding in person in the auction room
Absentee bids in writing
Telephone bids and absentee bids in writing
If you would like to place your bid by telephone or as an absentee bid in writing, you will be required to complete a power of attorney mandate and send it signed to the Dorotheum in Prague (by mail or fax), in order to comply with the legal provisions in force in the Czech Republic.
Dorotheum Ovocný trh 2 Prague 1 Czech Republic
Please send faxes to: 00420 224 222 011
You can choose from the following options:
1) If you would prefer to submit your absentee or telephone bid via the internet as usual, we will send you a power of attorney mandate on its receipt with your data already filled in. Please add your personal details and check to see whether all of your bids have been correctly entered. Please then confirm your absentee or telephone bid/s by adding your signature. Only once your mandate form has been submitted, can we act on your bid.
2) It is of course also possible for you to fill out the power of attorney mandate yourself.
Please note that your power of attorney mandate must be received by the Dorotheum in Prague at least 3 hours before the start of the auction, otherwise your bid cannot be taken into account.
If you would like to place a bid by telephone, please provide your telephone number and indicate whether you would like to speak to our staff in German, English or Czech.
3) Auction items with an upset price of less than or equal to CZK 14,000 may be bid on only on the basis of a written limit or by an auction participant who is present in the hall.
Bidding in person in the auction room
If you would like to participate in the auction in person in the auction room, we recommend that you arrive at the auction location at least 30 minutes before the start of the auction.
Prague Marriott Hotel V Celnici 8 110 00 Praha 1
You will be required to register for the auction before it starts. Please fill out the form, Application and Affidavit of Participant in Voluntary Public Auction. On presentation of a valid passport, you will be provided with a personal bidder’s number which you will need in order to place a bid. Please note that you will also be required to pay a deposit of CZK 1,000 during registration, which will be returned after the auction.
With the exception of opening comments and important administrative information about the running of the auction, proceedings will take place in the Czech language. Items for auction will be shown on monitors in the auction room – along with the current highest bid in Czech crowns and the corresponding sum rounded up in euros.
The highest bid at an auction is subject to an additional fee of 20%. Additional fees for any item are charged directly at the auction cash desk. Payment can be made in cash in Czech crowns or by credit card (VISA, Master Card, AMEX).
Should you not wish to take the item you have acquired directly away with you and would like to have it shipped to a particular address or even to the Dorotheum in Vienna, or if you would like us to organise an export licence for you, please leave your contact details with us. A member of our staff will be happy to contact you on the following working day.
The form of shipment you select will be organised at your cost by the Dorotheum in Prague, and will include, if you wish, any tariff regulations to be met in the Czech Republic. The Dorotheum in Prague cannot organise the requirements for tariff regulations for any other country other than the Czech Republic. Please appreciate that we cannot assume responsibility for any warranty or liability for the choice, standard or reliability of the shipping firm. Any shipment or storage arrangements, even when to/at another Dorotheum branch or representative office, will exclusively take place at your cost and liability. Your contractual partner is your chosen shipping firm.
Exporting auctioned items
Please note that the items for auction which are marked in the printed catalogue with an asterix *or respectively show a corresponding endorsement online have been declared as cultural monuments and are subject to an export ban. Due to the current legal regulations in force, some other items may have limitations applied to them in relation to export. Should you be interested in bidding for an item which may result in you being charged additional fees when you export it out of the Czech Republic, we would ask that you contact our customer services beforehand for advice.
