Girls and Ladyloves - Bronze-Ivory Figures by Peter Tereszczuk at the Dorotheum Art Nouveau Auction on 15th September 2011
At the „minor“ Dorotheum art nouveau auctions, taking place in March and September, collectors frequently discover unusual or rare items. The upcoming art nouveau auction on 15th September 2011 focuses on the work of the sculptor Peter Tereszczuk who contributes approximately 15 of the typical small sculptures for which he has become renowned in collectors circles. The 15 to 30 cm tall bronze figures are distinguished by their brown patina and ivory inserts.
Born in 1875 in the Ukraine, the artist died in Vienna in 1963, where he enjoyed his greatest success as an artist during the fin de siècle period. The works offered at the Dorotheum auction date to this period with estimates ranging between 300 and 3.000 Euro.
The majority of them show human figures with carved ivory features, with such subjects as a Dancing Girl with Bonnet (€ 1.600 - 2.000), a Lutist in Biedermeier Dress (€ 2.000 - 3.000), a small Pierrot with Ladylove (€ 2.000 - 3.000), or a Girl gathering Mushrooms (€ 1.000 - 1.400). However, they also include a writing desk set (€ 1.200 - 1.600) or a table lamp with a reading Biedermeier girl (€ 1.400 - 1.800).
