Mr. Majintha Jayesinghe, Sri Lankan Ambassador in Vienna
Dr. Ursula Krinzinger, Eva Schlegel, Barbara Higgs
The one world foundation is an Austrian aid organization that runs an educational project in Sri Lanka for over 1,100 children, juveniles and women – regardless of their ethnic origins or religion – funded by donations and the revenue from an Ayurveda resort. Driven by Kathrin Messner’s belief in the educational and formative benefits of travel, this social entrepreneurship is committed to positive long-term change in Sri Lankan society: through education programmes in a rural area with high unemployment, but also as an employer who offers their employees good welfare benefits and fair working conditions. The private social project was founded in 1995 by Kathrin Messner and Josef Ortner (d. 2009). Both have an art background and also initiated museum in progress. An Artist/Writer in Residence Programme in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Galerie Krinzinger and the writer Robert Menasse, makes the foundation a place in which art and literature are encouraged.
Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the continued existence of the one world foundation is acutely threatened. To rescue the school project in Sri Lanka, a benefit auction was organized at the Dorotheum by Ursula Krinzinger and Eva Schlegel – similar to one held after the devastating tsunami in 2005. Thanks to the generous participation of numerous Austrian and international artists, an impressive selection of outstanding artworks was put together.
No surcharges or fees will be added to the bid.
100% of the net proceeds will go to one world foundation.
