A ‘selendang’ shawl from the Island of Roti, an island to the south of Timor. Made from cotton, with attractive transverse bands of floral and geometric patterns. Dyed using the Ikat technique with black-blue, red and yellow natural dyes (Ikat: the warp threads are bound off prior to weaving and dyed).
Dimensions: c. 120 cm (without fringes) x 53 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
