Mixed lot (5 pieces): Persia, Syria or Egypt: a wash basin made of brass and a coffee service set with a tray, made of brass and copper. All 5 objects are richly decorated. - Mimoevropské a domorodé umění

1: A round wash basin, for hand washing before and after eating. It has a wide edge above, a rotund body and a low foot. Made of cast brass, milled and engraved with lavish decoration: with all-round bands in various motifs, medallions in Arabic script, floral and geometric grid patterns etc. Stylistically this basin originates from Persia, Syria or Egypt. The original tray made of sheet metal is missing from this beautiful object (lost over time). Otherwise no damage.
Dimensions: height: c. 14 cm; diameter: 28.5 cm (above), 14.5 cm (below).
2: A coffee service set made of copper, the ‘dragon handles’ are probably made of brass (with a high copper content and soldered on). It has a larger lidded jug with a ‘dragon handle’ and beak shaped spout for coffee, a smaller lidded jug with a ‘dragon handle’ and beak shaped spout for water and a sugar bowl with a lid and two ‘dragon handles’. All three receptacles are round, stand on low ring stands and on a matching copper tray with three round indentations. All three vessels gently taper upwards. All vessels and the copper tray display, on their visible outer surfaces, delicate engraved decoration: bands, floral and leafy tendrils, flowers, peaked curves and ‘Mirabotta’ designs (peacock motif). The copper tray also displays engraved decoration made up of interlacing bands, floral and leafy tendrils, as well as curved lines with flowers on the outer edges. Overall this coffee service set showcases some of the best metal craftsmanship and probably originated in Persia. No damage.
Dimensions of the vessels: height: 18 cm (large jug); 12.5 cm (small jug); 15 cm (sugar bowl).
All five objects of this mixed lot: about 1900 or earlier. (ME)
