Tapestry door frame,
Brussels (Netherlands), c. 345 x 338 cm, about 1700, the border of a once magnificent tapestry adapted as a frame, exceptionally fine silk and wool weaving with military trophies, weapons, armours, timpani and drums, a series on the subject of the art of war consisting of six complete tapestries is preserved at Rastatt Castle, the borders are trimmed at the lower ends and lengthened at both ends with velvet cloth, the inner side with later border and decorative fringes replaced, original blue external galloon - partly rewoven, secured with fabric on the back.
