In the nineteen-thirties, founding member of the Budweis avant-garde group "Linie" (1930-1938) and its photographic department "Fotolinie". Working as a photographer from the late twenties to the forties. One important characteristic of his work are their poetic titles. He became known for his so-called shadow plays and his work shows the influence of “Neue Sachlichkeit” and Surrealism, as well as his social and anti-Fascist commitment.
