South Caucasus, c. 262 x 109 cm, first half of the 19th century, collector’s carpet of arresting beauty with bizarre, highly stylised central field and massive light border with crab motifs and long arms, very harmonious arrangement of bright colours in a manner that is characteristic of only very early pieces, brown heavily corroded and partly repiled, otherwise good condition, light, cloth-like feel, all sides secured with linen band on the back.
