South Caucasus, c. 355 x 164 cm, about 1890, Erivan is one of the oldest cities in the world, its vast production of rugs in the 20th century includes high-quality carpets, older carpets are rare and similar to Shirvan rugs, very finely knotted and with single-weft cotton yarn, elongated hexagonal cartouche with heavily stylised blossoms in spoon-shaped contours, beautiful medachyl border in reciprocal execution, the present carpet is in a very good state of preservation with evenly deep pile wool.
