Verneh fragment,
South Caucasus, c. 180 x 96 cm, 19th century, although the image may look like rows of trees, it is in fact the typical Azerbaijani pattern depicting the mythical sun eagle with comb-shaped feather crown, the main border is decorated with double-T motifs; the present piece on cotton foundation displays a very good colour condition and is one of the oldest preserved specimens of its kind, partly with original mesh-braided warp threads, the weave was trimmed along the left and lower sides and is hence shorter with regard to both width and length, some signs of wear in the pattern, edge and fringe damage.
