Chaudor, - Orientální koberce, textilie a tapiserie

West Turkestan, c. 152 x 104 cm, second half of the 19th century, warp made of goat hair with camel hair weft threads, knots As 4, c. 1,400 kts/sqm; the prayer rug (Namazlik), already published by Bausback, with a stepped front, given its unusual form is an extremely rare specimen, the few reference pieces all belong to the Chaudor “red ground group”, as some of these carpets also display an engsi-like central field it is possible that they were also used as yurt entrance carpets, here in the ashik-like central field with white grid pattern are Erre guls set with arrows, the vertical white “stems”, which connect the field motif, change colour in the lower row and bear the “S” symbol, enclosed with wide border frame, the knotted area ends in an elem, whose width reaches the brown outer border, kilim and exceptionally large shirazi preserved, full pile.
