Dinka, South Sudan: A stool in typical form (also used as neckrest).
The Dinka are a large tribe of cattle breeders in southern Sudan. The present wooden stool (or neckrest) is a characteristic example of their everyday objects: The splayed seat terminates in abstract, stylised animal heads on either side, resting directly on three central diagonal legs. Carved from a single piece. With perfect, old patina. No damage.
First half of the 20th century; H: 26 cm, W: c. 50 cm. (ME)
