Sevres porcelain factory, porcelain, gilded inside, Napoleonic bees painted in gold on purple decoration, saucer centre with extremely finely painted leaf decoration, foot and saucer edged with red half-pearls, foor in form of bundled ears with garland of vine leaves, wall with two finely-painted cameo medallions, each signed "L. Parant" = Louis Bertin Parant, other medallions with monogram "N" (Napoleon) and "ML" (Marie Louise), edges with relief gold decoration, two handles in form of cornucopiae with three-dimensional amorettes, socket lid with gold edge and green painted eagles’ heads, finial in form of a three-dimensional amorette, height 22 cm, dia. bowl 15 cm, dia. saucer 22,7 cm, bowl with hairline crack, one amorette with glued repair, red manufacturer’s mark "M. Imp. le de Sevres 1811", (Lu)

Exceptional covered bowl from a service which was ordered by Emperor Napoleon I. from the Sevres porcelain factory to mark the birth of his son the King of Rome. The design goes back to Claude Charles Gerard (1757-1826). He was active in Sevres as a miniaturist and painter since 1771, From 1805-1824 as "chef d'atelier de peinture". The two miniatures come from the famous porcelain painter Louis Bertin Parant (1768-1851), who specialised in imitating cameos. The first miniature shows Minerva bringing the newborn King of Rome by boat to the Roman river god Tiber. The miniature shows Minerva handing over the King of Rome in the shape of Hercules to Emperor Napoleon I. Both miniatures are signed by Louis Bertrand Parant. Important museum-quality covered bowl representing the zenith of the classical Napeoleonic style.
