Balthasar van den Bossche had specialised in delicate and detailed renderings of the studios of painters and sculptors and offices of physicians and notaries. His bright and colourful pictures, many of which had been conceived as pendants, enjoyed great success. The pendant of the present painting, In the Painter’s Studio, was signed: Balthasar van den Bossche.
