The present painting is based on Paolo Veronese’s Saint Jerome and a Donor (Dulwich College Picture Gallery, London, cf. T. Pignatti, F. Pedrocco, Veronese, II, Milan, 1995, p. 403, no. 291), which is in turn a fragment from a larger composition that is partly preserved in the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa and partly in the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh.
