West Turkestan, c. 39 (100 incl. tassels) x 76 cm, first half of the 19th century, asymmetrical knots open towards the right, H 50, V 110 = c. 5.500 kts/sqm.
These small-format decorative hangings were once used during the celebration of Turkmen wedding processions and were fastened above the opening of the bridal litter (window curtain). The present piece is extremely finely knotted and has retained a light, pleasant colour condition with rare tones of green and yellow. Furthermore this luxurious piece is in an unusually good condition with a completely preserved decorative fringe and wool wrapping in alternating colours. Two secondary tears next to the triangular base of the body have been re-stitched. (MA)
