Australia, Northern Territory, Arnhem Land: ‘three geese’. Aboriginal painting on eucalyptus bark. Painter: John Daininganan Gupapuynge from Milingimbi. Beginning of the 1960s.
The present painting, in the typical style of Australian Aborigines, depicts three wild geese on a lake or other waterhole in the act of picking seeds from the calyxes of two water lilies. The water is painted black, the white, jagged lines represent waves. The painting is executed with natural colours: colourful earths, white clay and soot.
About 1960.
The picture, painted on a wavy piece of eucalyptus bark, was professionally mounted on a wooden screen in Europe. Dimensions: 60 x 30 cm. (ME)
Provenance: Purchased by Prof. Dr. Jan Jelinek directly from the artist, during his first ‘Czechoslovak scientific expedition’ in Arnhem Land, Northern Australia, in 1969. Since then preserved in the family collection in Brno, Czech Republic.
