Mixed lot (2 items): Dinka, South Sudan; Tuareg, Mali, Sahara.
1: A neckrest of the Dinka, from South Sudan. Made of hard, brown wood, on three legs, carved from a single piece. Decorated on the left and right with projecting bird heads. The birds’ eyes and the resting surface decorated with inserted metal studs. Good usage patina (resting surface), no damage. L: 40 cm, W: 15 cm.
2: A large storage vessel for the retention of millet. Probably from the Tuareg in Mali (or from other tribes in the Sahara-Sahel region, such as Peul, Ful, Tubu, Haussa, etc.). Made from half of a thick-walled, dried pumpkin calabash. With charming, geometrical fired decorations on the outside: Lines, wavy bands and black surfaces, burnt by means of a iron into the smooth outer wall. Minor damage as a result of use (2 glued cracks, small pieces broken off). DM: 44 cm x 49 cm.
