An old prestige sword from the Grassfields in Northwest Cameroon. With a (blunt) blade made of brass in a typical shape (ending in two points). This rare blade is decorated on both sides with punched circles, engraved semicircles consisting of double lines, triangles and grids. The hilt consists of wood and is decorated in relief with five all-round rows consisting of triangles and terminates in around finial. The wooden sheath is enveloped and stitched with animal leather. In the two typical, rattan carrying loops on the side are long remnants of old, brown-black carrying bands. A piece with very old usage patina and minor age-related damage (a crack on the hilt with original repair, glued). First third of the 20th century; L: 47 cm. (ME)
