Urhobo, Nigeria: An old bangle made of ivory.
A very old bangle made of ivory, belonging to the Urhobo, a neighbouring tribe of the Ibo in the Western Niger Delta. The joints of the bracelet display age-related craquelure, the outer side is already heavily darkened to red-brown and especially convincing is the inside with smooth, dark brown usage patina. 19th century; H: c. 8 cm, DM: 8.3 cm x 9.6 cm.
