Comp. Michel Faré, La vie silencieuse en France, La Nature Morte au XVIII siècle, Fribourg 1976, pls. 429 and 433. Surprisingly only little is known about Ricoeur, one of the most interesting flower painters in France. In 1772 he was an agrée at the Bordeaux Academy, where he was admitted as a flower painter in 1774. He was also known outside his native region. Le Brun, the husband of the famous Mme Vigée-Le Brun, an expert and art dealer himself, wrote about him in 1776: “Ricoeur, peintre de fleurs; il sait leur donner une fraîcheur peu commune…”.
