Antonietta Brandeis
(Myslkovice 1849–1910 Venice)
“Venedig - Il Palazzo Ducale”, old title on the reverse, signed A. Brandeis, oil on panel, 12 x 21 cm, framed, (Rei)
In 1867, Antonietta Brandeis was the first woman admitted to the Academy in Venice, where she studied under Michelangelo Grigoletti. The love of her chosen homeland, Italy, is reflected in numerous works. Among these, views of Venice play a particularly important role, as the lagoon city was a constant artistic focus of Brandeis. The brilliant colours and abundance of detail in her paintings are their defining feature.
