Cornelis Claesz van Wieringen, attributed to

Cornelis Claesz van Wieringen, attributed to - Mistrovské kresby, Tisky do roku 1900, Akvarely a miniatury

(c. 1576-1633)
Ships in a harbour, black chalk, traces of red chalk, on laid paper, 17 x 26 cm, mounted, unframed, (Sch)

Provenance:
Collection E. Blum; collection Sir Bruce Stirling Ingram (born in 1877), Chesham (Lugt 1405a); private collection, Italy.

The attribution to Cornelis Claesz van Wieringen was suggested by Martin Royalton-Kisch and Dr. Holm Bevers on the basis of a digital photography. Ron Brand, who is writing a doctoral thesis on Claesz van Wieringen, is suspecting an attribution to the artist. A comparable drawing in black chalk and brown ink, which was also in the collection of Sir Bruce Ingram, is kept in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (PD.914-1963). Another drawing executed in black chalk (lot 73) was sold on 19th March 2014 by Jean-Marc Delvaux in Paris.

Literature:
See George S. Keyes, "Cornelis Claesz van Wieringen", in: Oud Holland, Vol. 93, No 1 (1979), pp. 1-46.
