We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, who has confirmed this painting to be an authentic work by de Bergh.
There are very few verified works by the Delft still life painter, Gillis de Bergh. Dated paintings by him were produced between 1625 and 1668. His still life work was influenced by that of Pieter Claesz., Jacob van Hulsdonck and Bartholomeus van der Ast.
