Meshed Amoghli,
East Persia (Iran), c. 590 x 400 cm, about 1940, solid, heavily oversized carpet from the celebrated Amoghli master workshop, colours and pattern are similar to the famous Ardebil carpet at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London from the first half of the 16th century; consistently very deep pile without damaged areas, the upper outer border with the signature “Amoghli 110”. Note: the number 110 is a so-called Abjad numeral, and refers to Imam Ali: since his name cannot be stepped on, it was traditionally circumvented by using a number.
