Lakai Suzani,
Shakhrisyabz (Uzbekistan), c. 260 x 183 cm, mid-19th century, this extremely rare Suzani in metal, wool and silk embroidery features an unpatterned silk ground with embedded metal threads, which gives it an unusual heaviness, this item is characterised by a narrow border frame with ornamental fringes in brocade attached all around, the field is patterned with large star motifs, round flowers and tendrils reminiscent of climbing plants, a special feature are the three abstract, very charming animal motifs located in the lower left field corner; very good colour condition and overall state of preservation with minor repairs, mounted on red silk fabric.
