Pieter van Everdingen

Pieter van Everdingen - Mistrovské kresby, Tisky do roku 1900, Akvarely a miniatury

(Amsterdam 1663-1739 Alkmaar)
A harbour scene with sailing boats and two men in a rowing boat, toppling over, brush, black and grey ink, over traces of black chalk, on laid paper, wuth the fragment of a watermark "fool’s cap", 17,5 x 13 cm, mounted, unframed, (Sch)

Provenance:
Collection E. Blum, London; private collection, Italy.

The attribution to Pieter van Everdingen was confirmed by Prof. Charles Dumas (Email of 21st May 2018) and Prof. William W. Robinson (Email of 03rd June 2018) on the basis of a digital high resolution photography. Only a few drawings by Pieter van Everdingen, the son of the famous landscape and marine painter Allart van Everdingen (1621-1675), are known today. According to Prof. Charles Dumas the drawing may belong to the early work of the artist and may have been executed in the late 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. The drawing recalls works by the artist’s father and is comparable with two monogrammed drawings in the collection of I. Q. van Regteren Altena, which also derive from the early work of the artist. Two other drawings by Pieter van Everdingen, which are illustrated in the catalogue by Alice Davies (p. 486, Figs. 44 and 45) differ from the present sheet and may be ascribed to the late work of the artist.
