Gerard de la Vallée

A wooded landscape with Diana and her nymphs,
oil on canvas, 111 x 165 cm, framed
The attribution of the present painting to Gerard de la Vallée has been endorsed by Ursula Härting. A written certificate (July 2018) accompanies this lot. Härting compares this landscape with Diana’s Hunt in the Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts, Brussels. Both paintings can be dated into the late 1620s/early 1630s. They were inspired by artists such as Jan Brueghel I, Abraham Govaerts, Jasper van der Lanen, and Alexander Keirincx.
We are grateful to Judith Niessen from the RKD, The Hague, who confirmed the present painting as an autograph work by Gerard de la Vallée.
