The Grubacs family is associated with depictions of Venice. The eighteenth-century tradition of veduta painting was carried on by artists such as Carlo Grubacs and his son Giovanni, both of whom remained faithful to their predecessors Canaletto and Guardi.
The Rialto is the oldest of the four bridges crossing the Grand Canal. It was designed by Antonio da Ponte and completed in 1591. It was the centre of commercial life where ships from all over the world came to sell their wares such as textiles, spices and silk.
