West Anatolia (Turkey), c. 190 x 128 cm, about 1800, wool foundation with lazy lines, knotted against the line of vision; late Ottoman prayer rug from Transylvania with two column-like floral bands and lamps, the ‘S’ symbols in the upper panel are reminiscent of early dragon shapes; consistently low pile with a few bare areas, both original finishes have survived, the side edges have been replaced, all sides are secured with a linen band on the back.
