Arabatchi Chuval,
West Turkestan, c. 85 x 150 cm, beginning of the 19th century, asymmetrical knot open to the left, layered, weft: cotton and goat hair; large-format tent bag face in the shades of red and brown typical of this region with 4 x 4 chuval gul rows and chemche secondary motifs featuring a rhomb at its centre (a typical characteristic of this group), very beautiful tree elem, a few small parts of the pattern manufactured with violet-red silk (as is the case only with very early pieces); although both finishes have been trimmed, and despite two large old repairs, this piece is in good overall condition with slight signs of age and wear, attached at top on the back is a linen band with rings for hanging. A very similar piece was sold at the Pinner Collection auction.
