Ca.1870/80, attributed to G. E. Henri SERVANT (1828 - 1890). A black patinated vasiform bronze lamp with gold applications, set on 3 scrolled legs, with heads crowned with laurel leaves, female heads with floral decoration. Height without lamp shade ca. 65 cm, Height with shade ca. 96 cm. Later fitted with 1 electric light, functioning but without guarantee for fitting. With a new lamp shade with gold interior. (DOC)

An identical model was presented by G. E. Henri SERVANT at the Paris World Fair in 1867. We can therefore assume that the present piece came from his workshop. The artist was a Paris-based founder and bronze maker, who specialised in the revival of the repertoire of Greek and Roman antiquity; between 1867 and 1887 G. E. Henri SERVANT took part in the great international world fairs, where he received gold medals for his works. From as early as 1860 the artist was exporting 40% of his works abroad and in the meantime established himself as a member of the jury for the works in bronze category, and continued to exhibit vases and small bronze objects. Shortly before the World Fair of 1889, H. SERVANT retired from the business.
